110 GRAMS, FOUR MATERiALS
A Bumbinos Splash Pack weighs 110–120 grams depending on size. The whole product is made from four materials, each picked for a specific job.
The blades are PP (polypropylene) — a food-grade plastic and one of the most non-toxic options available. The structural parts use PA6 (polyamide 6), which is strong and flexible where it needs to be. As a material, PA6 has an unusual property — it can be chemically depolymerised back to its original monomer, which means it has the potential to be recycled into virgin-quality material rather than just being downcycled. The rear mudguard strap is TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) — extremely durable, practically indestructible under normal use, and unlike rubber straps, fully recyclable. Vulcanized rubber can only be ground into crumb. TPU can be melted down and reprocessed. It also lasts significantly longer, which means less replacement, less waste. The front mudguard strap is PET — lightweight and functional, but currently our only component sourced from China rather than Europe. At 6 grams it's a small part, but we're actively looking for a local alternative.

MiNiMUM 30% RECYCLED POST-CONSUMER PLASTiC
The blades — the part doing the actual mudguarding — contain a minimum of 30% post-consumer recycled plastic. That means material that already had a previous life as a product someone used, not factory scraps relabeled for a press release.
The 30% is a floor, not a target. When more recycled material meets our quality spec, we use more. It varies with supply, but the commitment doesn't.
DESiGNED FOR DiSASSEMBLY
Here's our favourite bit, honestly. Every Bumbinos product is designed for disassembly — a few parts that come apart in seconds, without tools. Blades snap off. The mount detaches. Nothing is glued or permanently fused together.
This sounds like a small thing, but it changes everything about what happens to the product over time. A mudguard you can take apart is a mudguard you can repair, upgrade, swap parts between siblings, and eventually separate for recycling. A mudguard you can't take apart is one solid lump heading for the incinerator.
EVERY PART AVAiLABLE AS A SPARE
Blades wear out. Mounts get lost in a move. Straps disappear into the void that also swallows hair ties and single socks. Instead of replacing the whole mudguard, you replace the part that's gone. Every single component is available separately on our website.
This also means you can size up from Small to Large blades when your kid outgrows their bike, without replacing the entire system. Or swap designs because Polka Panther got boring and Mucky Saurus is calling. The modular system handles all of it.

MADE iN SWEDEN ON RENEWABLE ENERGY
Bumbinos mudguards are produced in Sweden in ISO 14001 certified facilities. The facility runs on renewable energy — in practice, this means certified renewable electricity, which is how most Swedish manufacturing operates. We can't control what's in the cables at any given moment, but the energy supply is matched with renewable sources. The raw materials are sourced from Switzerland. Everything is traceable — we know where it comes from, how it's processed, and who makes it.
Fair working conditions come standard with manufacturing in Sweden. That's not something we had to implement — it's how things work here. We're close enough to the production line to visit regularly, which we do, because it's also kind of fun to watch mudguards being made.
ZERO PLASTiC PRODUCTiON WASTE
Making things generates leftovers — runners, test shots, trimmings. All of our plastic production offcuts get recycled locally into other products, including flower pots. So a piece of a Plasma Turbo blade might end up holding someone's herbs on a windowsill somewhere. The circle of life, mudguard edition.
75% LESS PACKAGiNG VOLUME
This is the kind of detail that doesn't make it onto most sustainability pages, but it probably should. Bumbinos Splash Packs are designed to nest into each other during packing. The products interlock inside dense cartons instead of rattling around in oversized boxes.
The result: based on our own comparisons, roughly 75% less packaging volume than if each product were boxed individually. Fewer cartons per shipment. Fewer shipments per order. Less cardboard, less fuel, less air being driven across a continent in a truck.

Every product is designed for disassembly and repair, with all parts available as spares. Plastic production waste is recycled locally. Packaging volume is reduced by roughly 75% through nesting design.
We didn't set out to build the most sustainable kids' mudguard on the market. We just made the decisions that made sense — and it turns out that thinking carefully about materials, production, and the full life of a product adds up to something worth talking about. So here we are, talking about it.
